Ali Hamurcuoğlu came to Bonn in 1982 and took over the tailor’s shop at Bonner Talweg in October 1983, aged 24 — a tailor’s shop had already existed there for 60 to 70 years.
Today the shop is part of the Südstadt: almost 90 percent of the clientele are old acquaintances, and customers greet Ali like an uncle — they go “to Ali”.

- Do I need an appointment?
- No. Just come by during opening hours. You are welcome to call first, but you don’t have to.
- What does an alteration cost?
- The price is quoted for your piece before we start — and it is firm once we have seen the garment.
- Can I get the price over the phone?
- We are happy to give a rough estimate on the phone. It only becomes exact once we have the piece in front of us: some garments take more work than others, and some things only show when you have them in your hand. How much work it takes decides the price — trousers can sometimes be widened a few centimetres at the side, sometimes several places need adjusting before they really sit right.
- How long does an alteration take?
- Usually a few days. Exactly how quick depends on what is coming in — before Abiball or before Karneval the shop is busier. If it is urgent, ask us directly.
- Do you take in shoes?
- No — shoes are the only thing we don’t take. For everything else: just bring it by.
- Do you take on work for companies?
- Yes — whether a one-off alteration or an ongoing cooperation. Professional, work and sports clothing, custom pieces such as aprons or children’s clothing.
- Do you also sew curtains, leather and fur?
- Yes. Curtains and large textiles, leather and fur are among the team’s specialities.
